The West Coast Conference and Zappos.com teamed up to film the first ever WCC-Zappos.com TV commercial this week. Zappos.com, the title sponsor for the WCC Basketball Championships in Las Vegas, Nev., is located in nearby Henderson, Nev., a stone's throw away from the Orleans Arena.

All nine WCC mascots flew to Las Vegas for a two-day commercial shoot at the Zappos Headquarters. The theme: just another day at Zappos.com.

Zappos.com creates a fun-working environment defined by its Zappos Family Core Values. (For more on those, click here .) The West Coast Conference has its own set of Core Values. This commercial shoot brought some of those together: collaboration, innovation, and building a positive team and family spirit.

Basketball Tip-Off event a resounding success

| No TrackBacks

Last week, the nine WCC men's basketball head coaches gathered at YouTube headquarters near the WCC office in San Bruno, Calif., for an event we called the WCC Men's Basketball Tip-Off event.  The intent was to blend a traditional media day with something more interactive, which allowed you, the WCC fans, to get involved.

We teamed up with our neighbor, YouTube, as well as Indianapolis-based WebStream Productions to put together a unique event.  Local and national media got their one-on-one time with our coaches and WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich in a relaxed setting as opposed to a more formal press conference.  We also set up three interactive stations to solicit fan participation.  Coaches sat down with Jeff Lampe for a special WCC Live radio show, they joined us for a live blog chat with over 700 of you, and they took part in a live one-on-one interview with legendary broadcaster Barry Tompkins that was streamed to more than 5,000 people on YouTube and WCCsports.com.  For those interviews, we asked your questions from Facebook and from Twitter.

We weren't sure what to expect, but thanks to you, the event was a resounding success.  Between the video stream, the live chat blog, and our WCC Live radio show, over 7,000 people joined us and took part in the event.  Comments crammed our Facebook page and the stream of questions was constant on Twitter through our #WCChoops hash tag.  It wouldn't have been a success without you.

Coverage from the event at YouTube:
Rush the Court: WCC Embraces New Media as Basketball Profile Rises
Digital Hoops Blast: West Coast Conference Does YouTube Day for Men's Basketball
San Francisco Chronicle: WCC Basketball Coaches Hone Social Media Skills

We're planning now for social media coverage at the 2012 Zappos.com WCC Basketball Championships in Las Vegas.  What would you like to see us do?  As always, I welcome your feedback.  Please contact me via the link below.

First Shoes. Now...T-shirts!

| No TrackBacks
Since 2008, WCC campuses have enthusiastically participated in the annual Zappos.com WCC Shoe Drive to benefit Soles4Souls, a charity based out of Nashville, TN that has donated over 16 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes. In just three years' time, WCC schools have combined to donate over 26,900 pairs of shoes to Soles4Souls to be distributed to those in need worldwide!

This year, the drive brings two new and exciting changes: 1) a new contender in new conference member BYU, and 2) a switch from collecting shoes to collecting T-shirts. And though it will be a change, we are confident that our schools will continue to blow away in donations and give back more than ever before. And on top of that, we still get to benefit the Soles4Souls family by donating to a division of their organization called Clothes4Souls.

So WCC community, your chance to support your school in the inaugural Zappos.com WCC T-Shirt Drive is coming up soon! It starts on December 5 and will end on February 27, just in time for the 2012 Zappos.com WCC Basketball Championships.

If you would like to learn more about Soles4Souls and its Clothes4Souls division, visit Soles4Souls.org or visit one of our schools when the Soles4Souls RV Tour hits it!

2011 Soles4Souls/Clothes4Souls National University RV Tour
The Soles4Souls RV will be visiting some of our campuses on its national tour with the first visit today! The RV Tour is designed to educate students of our generation about the 300 million children and untold adults in the world who have never owned shoes and then involve college students in meeting this need.
