West Coast Conference Holds First Social Media Summit
Event reinforced best practices and opportunities for innovation
SAN FRANCISCO – Social media managers from around the West Coast Conference descended on San Francisco last week as the WCC held its first Social Media Summit. Nearly 40 guests attended the event, which featured discussions with several industry professionals and best practices presentations from three @WCCsports schools.
“The Social Media Summit improves collaboration and the ability to innovate amongst our member institutions,” said WCC Commissioner Gloria Nevarez. “Social media is critical to the way our college students communicate and we want to help our schools maximize the platform to tell stories of their amazing student-athletes.”
The full day of programming featured discussions with professionals from Twitter Sports, NBC Sports, the Oakland Raiders, San José Sharks, and Associated Press, with conversations ranging from maximizing the Twitter platform, covering seasonal overlap, taking advantage of on-field success, and defining your brand’s voice on Instagram. Presentations from BYU, Pepperdine, and San Diego focused on monetization, collaboration across departments, and planning and executing a social campaign.
“The first West Coast Conference Social Media Summit was a resounding success,” said Associate Commissioner Jeff Tourial, who spearheaded the event. “Thanks to the strong commitment by our schools to engage in technological developments, we were able to learn from one another and industry pros who work in this rapidly-evolving space every day.”
