Dave Libbey comes to the WCC after retiring from collegiate basketball officiating after the 2008-09 season. Libbey was a NCAA Division I official for 30 years (1979-2009), and in addition to officiating for the West Coast Conference, worked for the Pacific-10, Big 12, Conference USA, Big Sky, Western Athletic, Big Sky and Big West. He was selected to work in the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship in 23 of his 30 seasons, and worked a total of 78 NCAA post-season games in that span. He officiated in eight NCAA Final Fours, including the championship game in 1992 and 1996 and the national semifinals in 1994, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2003. "I am very excited to add David Libbey to our West Coast Conference team and I am confident that his energy, work ethic and passion for officiating and the WCC will immediately enhance our officiating program," Zaninovich said. "While David's on court success speaks for itself, he has also served as a dedicated mentor to younger officials for many years and has shared his passion for the game and officiating to help develop the next generation. I am happy he will now serve this vitally important role as our new Coordinator of Men's Basketball Officials." Libbey will be responsible for recruiting officials, assigning officials for exhibition, conference and non-conference games hosted by WCC institutions, and present recommendations of officials for assignment in the WCC and NCAA tournaments. He will also supervise, train, mentor and evaluate WCC officials and work with the conference office on an officiating policy and procedures manual. |
