WCC GOLF QUICK HITS

  • Four WCC programs won six tournament titles this year. Saint Mary’s won a league-high three and won the Jim West Intercollegiate for the second straight year. BYU, Loyola Marymount and Santa Clara each collected team tournament hardware.
  • Two WCC programs rank in the top-55 in the current GolfStat rankings. Defending WCC Champion Pepperdine sits at No. 40 nationally, while Saint Mary’s is No. 52.
  • Five WCC student-athletes recorded six medalist honors in 2015-16. Gonzaga’s Sean Walsh posted a pair of tournament triumphs. Saint Mary’s Jonathan De Los Reyes and Pavan Sagoo, Santa Clara’s Hayden Shieh and BYU’s Austin Christensen also posted wins.
  • Three WCC student-athletes rank in the top-50 nationally according to GolfStat: Saint Mary’s Jonathan De Los Reyes (16), Santa Clara’s Hayden Shieh (28) and Pepperdine’s Frederick Wedel (32) and Sahith Theegala.

ABOUT THE 2016 WCC GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2016 West Coast Conference Golf Championships will be held at the Blackhawk Country Club in Danville, California. The event runs from Monday, April 18 through Wednesday, April 20. Golfers will play 18 holes per day on the par-72 course playing at 6,775 yards.

REVIEWING THE 2015 WCC GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
Last season, Pepperdine won its first West Coast Conference Championship since 2010 behind a medalist performance by Cody McManus. The Waves were in seventh place after the first round and entered the final 18 holes four strokes behind Pacific. Pepperdine rallied for a three-shot win, good for the program’s 18th WCC title.

The Waves shot a 910, followed by Pacific (913), Saint Mary’s (917). Pacific’s Byron Meth, the 2014 WCC medalist, took runner-up honors (221) followed by Loyola Marymount’s Connor Campbell (223).
