SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Rawlings Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for February 29, 2016.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE RAWLINGS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – RILEY ADAMS, SO., C – SAN DIEGO
Sophomore catcher Riley Adams paced San Diego to a 3-1 record last week, leading the offense hitting .533 with eight hits, three doubles, one home run and five RBI. Adams began the week going 3-for-5 with one RBI against San Diego State. He then went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and four RBI in the win against Nebraska. On Saturday against Tulane, he went 1-for-2 with a double, and in Sunday’s loss to UCSB, he went 1-for-3 with a double.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE RAWLINGS PITCHER OF THE WEEK – MICHAEL RUCKER, JR., RHP – BYU
Junior right-hander Mike Rucker struck out a Samford batter in each of his seven innings (four swinging) of the series-opening 7-1 win at previously undefeated Samford, throwing 98 pitches and surrendering four hits to earn his second victory of the season.
Rucker lowered his earned run average from 3.00 to 1.38, givng up an unearned run in the 7-1 victory which BYU led by that score when he left the game after seven innings. He retired Samford in order in the first, fourth and seventh innings to improve BYU's team record to 5-0. In the third inning, after trailing by a score of 1-0 and behind 3-0 in the count to Samford preseason All-American Heath Quinn, Rucker threw three consecutive strikes (two looking, the final one swinging) to end the inning with one runner left on base.
