Anderson (Player) and White (Pitcher) Take Rawlings Weekly Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Rawlings Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for May 16, 2016. 

WEST COAST CONFERENCE RAWLINGS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – BRENNON ANDERSON, SO., IF – BYU
Sophomore infielder Brennon Anderson raised his batting average from .319 to .341 in the four games, batting .538 with a slug of 1.000 and two home runs with six putouts and eight assists.   

His two-run homer in the fifth inning of BYU's 12-6 victory game BYU a 7-0 lead last Friday.  In the sixth inning of BYU's eventual 9-3 win he made a defensive gem for the third out of that inning when the score was tied 3-3 and a runner was on base. In addition, he hit a two-run, 400-foot homer in the fifth inning of BYU's 6-5 loss at San Francisco.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE RAWLINGS PITCHER OF THE WEEK – MITCHELL WHITE, SO., RHP – SANTA CLARA
West Coast Conference strikeout leader Mitchell White turned in another solid performance for Santa Clara baseball on Saturday night. The sophomore righthander threw his first complete game as a Bronco and struck out a career-high 15 batters as part of Santa Clara's 9-1 win over Portland. He threw 100 pitches, allowed only four hits and did not issue a walk.

White dealt six 1-2-3 innings overall and retired 10 straight batters over the last four frames. The right-hander struck out six consecutive Portland hitters from the final out of the seventh through the second out of the ninth. He retired 10 of the first 11 Pilots and 15 of the first 17 hitters overall.

His complete game victory is the first for the Broncos since Tommy Nance pitched a shutout in a 3-0 win at Stanford on May 14, 2013. White ranks fourth in the nation and first in the WCC with 116 strikeouts, including 9+ fanned batters in nine of 13 weekend starts.
