SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for October 19, 2015.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – PAUL BLANCHETTE, SR., GK - LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
Senior goalkeeper Paul Blanchette was superb in goal for the Lions last week, making 10 total saves and recording a pair of shutouts as Loyola Marymount blanked Gonzaga, 1-0, and Portland, 3-0. The clean sheets were the fifth and sixth of the season for Blanchette, who rolls his career total to an LMU record 17.
On Friday against the Zags, the senior tallied all five of his saves in the first half to help the Lions head into the second half in a scoreless draw. His defensive work paid off in the second half as his offense got him a one-goal lead in the 65th minute. On Sunday, Blanchette turned away three Pilot shots in the first half and two more in the second as his offense provided him with three goals. With six shutouts on the season, Blanchette is now one away from tying his own LMU record of seven, set in 2013.
