SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Rawlings Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 18, 2016.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE RAWLINGS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – GIO BRUSA, SR., OF – PACIFIC
Senior outfielder Gio Brusa started the week with a homerun against Fresno State and didn’t let up from there hitting .636/.789/1.545 on the week, leading Pacific to four wins including its first WCC series sweep of the year.

Brusa went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored on Friday against Portland, adding a walk as well.  On Saturday, Brusa went 3-for-3 with two homers and four RBI before Portland decided not to pitch to him again.  He was intentionally walked twice Saturday and walked in all five of his plate appearances Sunday, three of them intentionally.

The five walks in one game set a new school record and was just one away from the NCAA record.  Brusa reached base in 11 consecutive plate appearances to end the weekend and was retired just once in his 15 plate appearances against Portland.  In all, Brusa would record seven hits and eight walks this week, scoring five runs and driving in six more.  The senior had four extra-base hits with a double and three homers and is now second in the WCC in homers with eight on the year.  Brusa also struck out just once in the four games.

Also Nominated: Niko Decolati, Loyola Marymount; Joey Fiske, Saint Mary’s; Matt Sinatro, San Francisco

WEST COAST CONFERENCE RAWLINGS PITCHER OF THE WEEK – A.J. PUCKETT, JR., RHP – PEPPERDINE
Junior righthander A.J. Puckett continued his tear through the WCC season this week, notching his sixth straight start without giving up an earned run on Friday, to run his streak to 45.2 innings. Puckett tossed 7.0 scoreless innings in a dominant outing against LMU, leading the Waves to a 6-0 victory in the opener and helping Pepperdine pick up a crucial series win to grab the ever-important fourth place in the conference standings. Puckett worked out of the only two jams he faced in the game, stranding runners on the corners in the third and then got a strikeout to leave runners on second and third in the fourth.

Puckett struck out six batters in the game, running his season total to 63 against just 16 walks. The junior right-hander has only allowed two unearned runs since beginning his streak and hasn’t allowed a run of any kind in his last 36.0 innings of work. The 45.2 innings without an earned run are a Pepperdine record since game-by-game records began being kept. He has run his season ERA to a league-leading 1.16.
