SAN BRUNO, Calif. – San Diego freshman outfielder Taylor Spence and Saint Mary’s senior pitcher Lujane Massadi have been named the West Coast Conference Softball Players and Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
The honors are the first in the careers of both Spence and Mussadi.
Spence helped the Toreros go 4-1 over the weekend by hitting .625 (10-for-16). The freshman outfielder had at least one hit in every game over the weekend, highlighted by two games with three hits. The speedster also scored five runs and had two stolen bases, pushing her to a WCC-best 14 swiped bags on the year. Spence also leads the Toreros with a .398 average on the season.
Mussadi earned wins in both Saint Mary’s games on the week in the form of a doubleheader against Iona. In game one, Mussadi came off the bench to toss 1.1 shutout innings, allowing just one hit in the Saint Mary’s 3-2 win over the other Gaels. Getting the start in game two, Mussadi pitched a complete-game two-hitter, facing just 23 batters in seven innings, two over the minimum. She walked none and struck out four in the 1-0 win. For the week, Mussed went 8.1 innings, allowed three hits, zero runs, and zero walks with five strikeouts.
