WCC Announces Players of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- With the 2010-11 men's and women's basketball season in action, the West Coast Conference is pleased to announce its WCC Players of the Week selections.

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Mickey McConnell, Saint Mary's, Senior, Guard
McConnell averaged 24.5 points, with 10 assists, and three rebounds this week, helping the Gaels go 2-0 and improve to 12-2 with wins over Mississippi State and Hartford. He shot 14-for-28 from the floor (.500) and 9-for-20 from 3-point range (.450). In the win over Mississippi State in Las Vegas, he recorded his first double-double of the year, with career-high's in points (28) and assists (13). His 28 points led all scorers that game. In the win over Hartford, McConnell finished the night with 21 points and seven assists. He shot 6-for-10 from the floor and 4-for-7 from behind the arch. Of his 21 points, 18 came in the second half, helping put away the Hawks.

Co-Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Kayla Standish, Gonzaga, Junior, Forward
Standish averaged a double-double over the Bulldogs' two contests this past week. Standish began the week scoring a team-high 16 points, along with bringing down a season-high 12 rebounds in the Zags nine-point setback to No. 14/16 Notre Dame. Standish also had two steals, two blocks and one assist. Standish followed that performance up scoring a season-high 23 points, two points off tying her career-high, hitting 9-of-14 from the field and sinking all five free throw attempts in GU's win over Seattle. She again grabbed 12 boards, but this time six were offensive. She added a career-high four assists, and blocked two more shots and stole the ball once. On the week, she averaged 19.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and shot 47.0 percent from the field. Standish has registered double-figures points in eight-straight contests and has had 20-plus point contests in five of the last six.

Louella Tomlinson, Saint Mary's, Senior, Forward
Louella Tomlinson led the Gaels to a win on the road at Boise State, 71-57 on December 29. Tomlinson scored 18 points on 8-for-14 shooting, grabbed eight rebounds and added five blocks. Tomlinson scored in double-figures for the fifth consecutive game and 12th time in 15 games this year.
