WCC Announces December Players of the Month

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- With only men's and women's basketball in full action, the West Coast Conference would like to award Player of the Month honors for the month of December.

Matthew Dellavedova, Saint Mary's, Sophomore, Guard
Sophomore guard Matthew Dellavedova helped the Gaels go 6-1 in the month of December, with their lone loss coming on the road to No. 17 San Diego State. For the month, Dellavedova averaged 14.6 points per game to lead SMC, while adding 41 assists, averaging 5.8 assists per game. He shot 39-for-80 from the floor (.488 percent) and 19-for-44 from 3-point range (.432 percent). After the loss to San Diego State (in which he scored 15 points with four assists), the Gaels won six-straight, beating their opponents by an average of 21 points. During that stretch Dellavedova averaged six assists a game and 12.8 points per game. He tied his career-high with 23 points in the win over UC Riverside, and he set a new career-high with 24 points in the win over Mississippi State in Las Vegas, shooting 9-for-16 from the floor and 6-for-10 from behind the arc.

Nemanja Mitrovic, Portland, Junior, Guard
Junior guard Nemanja Mitrovic led the Pilots to a 6-1 record in December and averaged 17.4 points per game while shooting 57 percent from the field and 88 percent at the foul line. Mitrovic went 30-48 from the three-point line for a 63 percent shooting average from beyond the arc. He finished the month with three consecutive games of 20 or more points. The Toronto native scored a career-high 22 points against Boise State on Dec. 22 and matched that total on Dec. 27 versus Nevada. Mitrovic then sparked a second half comeback win over Utah on Dec. 31 with 18 points after the break and 21 total. He made at least two three-pointers in all seven games and four or more in six games.

Kayla Standish, Gonzaga, Junior, Forward
Junior forward Kayla Standish led Gonzaga to a 7-1 record in the month of December by averaging 18.9 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 1.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game, while shooting an impressive 62.3 percent (66-of-106) from the field and 95.0 percent (19-of-20) at the free throw line. She had four games where she shot above 70.0 percent from the floor; her best shooting night coming against Cal State Fullerton, where she hit 10-of-13 from the field and drained bothfree throw attempts for 22 points in 27 minutes of action. Standish scored double figures in all eight contests, including five 20-plus point performances. She also had three double-doubles. She was named to the StateFarm Holiday Hoops Classic, hosted by Seattle U, after registering double-doubles in both contests. Standish finished with 16 points, 12 boards, two blocks, two steals, and one assists in the Bulldogs lone loss of the month, a 70-61 setback to then No. 14/16 Notre Dame, and had a season-high 23 points, 12 rebounds, a career-high four assists, two blocks and one steal in GU's win over Seattle. Standish also moved into sixth in the Gonzaga career record book in blocks with her 20 blocks in the month of December; she ended the month of December with a 102 blocks in her career. She was also named WCC Player of the Week twice in December.
