SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference announced its 2011 WCC Fall Team Sportsmanship Award winners today for the sports of men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, and women's volleyball. Selected team winners were recognized for being the best models of the WCC's established sportsmanship principles and standards, based on nominations provided by peer teams around the WCC.

"When the Sportsmanship Task Force and REPRESENT campaign were first established three years ago, our goal was to assess the current sportsmanship environment within the West Coast Conference and collectively elevate our sportsmanship expectations and practices," said WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich. "It is great to see how engaged our student-athletes have become in growing the WCC REPRESENT campaign on their campuses and recognizing one another as good sports around the conference."

Below are the fall sportsmanship award winners for men's cross country, women's cross country, men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball.

Institutions that accumulate the most team sportsmanship awards throughout the year will be named the 2011-12 West Coast Conference Institutional Sportsmanship Award winner and will be recognized at the end of the year. The Institutional Sportsmanship Award is part of the larger conference-wide sportsmanship campaign, known as REPRESENT, which was launched in 2009 as an effort to ensure a positive game environment across all WCC campuses.

Since its inception, the REPRESENT campaign has transformed into a long-lasting commitment, in which all WCC schools, teams and each campus Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) actively promote good sportsmanship by hosting REPRESENT events on campus throughout the school year.

In addition to the announcement of the sportsmanship award winners this week, the conference office and its instiutions will also be hosting the 2012 Winter REPRESENT Week on facebook.com/WCCsports from January 23-28.
