WCC Announces Players of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- With the 2010-11 men's and women's basketball season in action, the West Coast Conference is pleased to announce its WCC Players of the Week selections.

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Kevin Foster, Santa Clara, RS SO, Guard
Santa Clara's Kevin Foster helped lead the Broncos with wins over Gonzaga and Portland by scoring a league-best 36 points versus Gonzaga and 19 points against Portland, making it his 12th game this season and 27th time in his career scoring with 19-plus points. With the weekend, Foster has surpassed the 1,000 career point mark and ranks No. 35 nationally in points per game and No. 2 in threes per game. On the week, he averaged 53.6 percent from the floor, including 45.0 percent from the three-point line and 84.2 percent from the free throw line.

Co-Women's Basketball Players of the Week
Courtney Vandersloot, Gonzaga, Senior, Guard
Senior Courtney Vandersloot helped Gonzaga stay perfect in West Coast Conference play by averaging 18.0 points, 9.0 assists, 3.5 steals and 2.5 rebounds over the Zags' two victories while shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 90.0 percent at the charity stripe. Vandersloot began the week, scoring a game-high 21 points - her eighth 20-plus performance of the season, and third in league action, along with dishing out nine assists, with just one turnover, and making five steals in GU's 89-53 victory over Santa Clara. She ended the week scoring 15 points, handing out nine assists again, making two steals and grabbing three rebounds - all in just 25 minutes of play - in Gonzaga's 97-60 win over San Francisco.

ReZina TecleMariam, Portland, Junior, Guard
Portland junior ReZina Teclemariam averaged 17.5 points per game, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 5.0 steals to help lead the Pilots to home wins over San Francisco and Santa Clara. She shot 11-for-17 (.647) overall, hit six of nine (.667) on three-pointers and went7-for-8 at the foul line. During Thursday's 74-57 win over the Dons, she scored a game-high 16 points in just 25 minutes on 6-for-10 shooting, while grabbing seven rebounds. On Saturday, TecleMariam tallied a game-high 19 points during a 70-62 win over the Broncos. She missed just two shots (5-for-7) overall against SCU and was 4-for-5 from behind the three-point arc. She led the team in rebounds with seven, and matched Thursday's performance with five more steals, while also handing out four assists.
