San Bruno, Calif. - The West Coast Conference will hold a luncheon with the theme of "Empower Yourself!" in Portland, Ore. on Friday, March 2, 2007 to coincide with the 2007 WCC Women's Basketball Championships, hosted by the University of Portland. Members of the Portland community are invited to attend the luncheon, which will be held in the Terrace Room on the University of Portland campus.
The event will include a plated lunch, during which four Portland-based women will share their own experiences of empowerment through athletics. The presenters will also provide ideas and suggestions for women on how to empower themselves and future generations of women through physical activity and athletics.
The lineup of speakers includes Kate Dunn, a former Loyola Marymount University basketball player and West Coast Conference Player of the Year and current Nike employee; Mollie Galloway, the Director of Research and Assessment at Lewis & Clark College and a member of the Positive Coaching Alliance; Angela Batinovich, a Loyola Marymount University graduate and owner of the Portland Lumberjax of the National Lacrosse League; and Laure Redmond, a fitness therapist, consultant, and author of Feel Good Naked.
Bon Appétit, a Portland-based food service management company which is dedicated to using only food grown within 150 miles of the University of Portland campus, will provide the meal.
Tickets for the event will go on sale on Friday, February 9, 2007 and will include one entry into the luncheon as well as two all-session passes for the WCC Women's Basketball Championships held March 1-4, 2007 at the University of Portland's Earle A. and Virginia H. Chiles Center. The cost of tickets will be $55 each, with only a limited number of tickets available to the general public.
