SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- West Coast Conference Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich has announced the hiring of Brad Hurlbut as the conference's Senior Associate Commissioner for External Relations. Hurlbut joins the WCC after spending the last 17 years in the Athletics Department at Northwestern University.

"I am very pleased to welcome Brad Hurlbut to our team at the West Coast Conference," Zaninovich said. "Brad impressed me with his breadth of experience, understanding of private, academically-driven institutions, commitment to the student-athlete model, and sincere enthusiasm for being part of the West Coast Conference team."

For the past 17 years, Hurlbut served as a member of the executive staff at Northwestern University, most recently as the Senior Associate Athletics Director. Highlights of his tenure include oversight of the scheduling process for men's basketball, managing numerous NCAA and Big Ten championships, and representing Northwestern on the Big Ten Conference's Administrator Council and co-chairing the Sport Management Committee. Hurlbut was also heavily involved in the department's strategic planning, event management, alumni relations, and facilities master planning and major capital projects. In addition, he served on the University's and athletics department strategic planning committees and the President's inauguration committee. Over the course of his time in Evanston, Hurlbut supervised nine sports including men's and women's basketball, football, tennis, golf and volleyball.

"I am very honored to become a part of the West Coast Conference family," said Hurlbut. "I have known Jamie for many years and have been thoroughly impressed with his leadership and vision as well as the positive direction the WCC has taken since he became commissioner. To be able to work for a conference comprised of top-tier educational institutions that embrace the true student-athlete model is a tremendous opportunity, and I look forward to helping advance the mission and profile of the WCC."

During his time at Northwestern, Hurlbut has also served as the Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs and the Director of Media Services. Prior to his tenure at Northwestern, Hurlbut was the Director of Athletics Communications at the University of Pennsylvania as well as a sports information assistant at The George Washington University. He has also worked in the private sector as the public relations manager for Footwear Industries of America and as a policy analyst at Meridian Corporation.

Hurlbut will officially join the West Coast Conference staff on September 4.
