WCC Players of the Week Announced

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The WCC recognized four student-athletes this week with WCC Player of the Week honors. Gonzaga's Vito Higgins and Portland's Michael Gavin shared this week's WCC men's soccer Player of the week honor, while Loyola Marymount's Joslyn Slovek earned the women's weekly award. San Diego's Laurel Abrahamson was selected as the women's volleyball Player of the Week.

Abrahamson helped lead the Toreros to a 2-0 record this past week with winsover the University of New Mexico and the University of San Francisco. InMonday's match against New Mexico, Abrahamson recorded 13 kills on 20attempts, while only committing one attack error to post a .600 attackpercentage. In Saturday's WCC opener, the 6-4 Bloomington, Minn. native ledall players with 12 kills on 16 attempts, while only committing one attackerror to post a match-best .688 attack percentage. For the week, Abrahamsonposted 25 kills, had 10 blocks and hit for an impressive .639 clip.
WOMEN'S SOCCER

Joslyn Slovek, LMU

Slovek wasinstrumental in LMU extending its winning streak to a school-record sixgames, posting a combined seven saves in wins over Idaho and UC Riverside. Slovek stopped four shots on Friday in a 3-1 win versus Idaho to help theLions tie the nine-year old program record for consecutive wins at five. Shefollowed that performance with three saves, including two spectacular divingstops in the second half, for her fifth shutout of the year against UCRiverside. With LMU leading 2-0, Slovek went low to her right to keep out along-range effort with 20 minutes to go. Minutes later, she produced thesave of the match, stretching high to her right to tip over and preserve the2-0 shutout victory.

Higgins collected eight saves in between the pipes for the Zags, falling one short of his career-high. The senior, who is Gonzaga's all-time leader in with 249 career saves, enters the week ranked second in the WCC with 29 saves on the season.

Michael Gavin, POR

Michael Gavin tallied his first goal of the year in the tie with the Bulldogs, netting the equalizer in the 80th minute to help the Pilots earn a point. The senior scored on a free kick from 25 yards out, bouncing a low shot past the Gonzaga `keeper to knot the game at one. It marked just the third career goal for the defender.
