SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Junior All-American John Moore was named the West Coast Conference male runner of the month for September. Although he only participated in one event in September, Moore led the No. 8 Pilots to a second place finish at the highly competitive Bill Dellinger Invitational at the University of Oregon. Moore finished third overall with a time of 23:19.08, just 21 seconds behind BYU's Josh Rohatinsky (22:58.37) and 10 seconds behind Oregon's Galen Rupp (23:09.03). Moore now holds the conference's top 8K time.
"Moore is off to a great start," head cross country coach Rob Conner said. "He's definitely cut the gap between himself and two of the fastest guys in the NCAA [Rohatinsky and Rupp]. He's hungry to even it up by the end of the season."
Moore will race at the NCAA Pre-National on Oct. 14 in Terre Haute, Ind., and will then compete at the West Region Championship, which will be hosted by the University of Portland on Nov. 11. The NCAA Championship Meet will be held Nov. 19 in Terre Haute, Ind.
"I'll be even more excited if Moore is runner of the month in November," Conner said.
