The West Coast Conference announced its Players of the Week awards as Saint Mary's captured the volleyball honors with Shannon Lowell and Portland won the women's soccer award with Michelle Enyeart, while San Diego and San Francisco shared the men's soccer award with Sam Reeder and Conor Chinn respectively.
Junior middle blocker Shannon Lowell had a big week helping the Gaels go 2-0 and improving to 16-4 and 8-1 in conference play. For the week Lowell notched 25 kills, on 56 attempts for an impressive .411 hitting percentage. She averaged 3.12 kills per set, while also recording two aces, three digs, and 12 total blocks. In the five set win over Pepperdine on Saturday, Lowell notched 17 kills on 34 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage, she also recorded six total blocks and helped the Gaels sweep the season series against the Waves for only the second time in program history.
Enyeart scored the game-winner in a 1-0 road victory at No. 14 Santa Clara on Sunday. Enyeart scored on her only shot attempt of the match in the fourth minute as Portland earned its first victory at Santa Clara since 1997. Enyeart has 13 goals and 12 assists this season.
Reeder kick started USD's offense on Friday vs USF when he scored the first goal of the match. From the right hand side, forward Stephen Posa earned a free kick knocking the ball behind the USF defense where Reeder came into the far post and headed in a goal for the 1-0 lead. His defensive leadership in the backfield held USF to only one goal. The defense from last year was shaky at times and Sam's return this year has made it rock solid again. Reeder plays a key role and is the foundation of the defense.
Chinn turned in a seven-point weekend, helping the Dons record a split. The reigning WCC Player of the Year, Chinn recorded his second career hat trick against Loyola Marymount in USF's 3-1 triumph on Sunday. Both of Chinn's hat tricks came against LMU with the other coming in Los Angeles on November 16 of last year. Chinn fired a career-high 13 shots Sunday against the Lions with 11 of them on frame. The preseason All-American has recorded seven goals in his last three matches against Loyola Marymount. Chinn added his third assist of the season Friday night against No. 19 San Diego. After the seven-point weekend Chinn has a team-high eight goals on the season, two game-winners and 19 points. For his career, the San Diego native has 35 goals, 11 game-winners, 12 assists and 82 points in 72 career matches. For his exploits, Chinn was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week (ending Nov. 1).
