SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- With volleyball, men's soccer and women's soccer in full regular season action and golf and tennis playing fall tournaments, the WCC would like to award Player of the Month honors for the month of October.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Trevor Dunbar, POR and Jose Madera, USF
USF freshman Jose Madera finished 11th at the Bronco Invitational in October, crossing the line in 24:17, breaking the school's 8k record that he set earlier this year. Madera also finished second at the WCC Championships at Crystal Springs Course in Belmont, CA last Saturday. He was the only freshman to finish in the top five.
Portland sophomore Trevor Dunbar finished second at the Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem, OR on October 2nd in 23:2267, helping the team to a first place finish overall. Dunbar also finished fourth at the NCAA Pre-Nationals "White Race" in a time of 23:42.4 in the 8k, helping secure a fourth place finish for the Pilots.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Tara Erdmann, LMU
After placing fourth overall at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terra Haute, IN on October 16th, Erdmann went on to win the WCC individual title and set the course record by over ten seconds on the Crystal Springs Course in Belmont, CA. Erdmann led the race from wire to wire, crossing the finish line in 20:21.

MEN'S GOLF - Alex Ching, USD
San Diego junior Alex Ching helped lead the 22nd-ranked Toreros to two first place finishes and another top-five showing in their three October tournaments. Ching averaged a team-best 70.37 scoring average with low rounds of 67 (Wolf Pack) and 69 (The Prestige).

WOMEN'S GOLF - Tamara Surtees, SCU
Santa Clara junior Tamara Surtees won the 2010 Colby Invitational with a final-round 74 on Tuesday, October 26th at the Silver Creek Country Club in San Jose, CA. It was her first-ever collegiate victory. Surtees' tournament victory came on the heels of an outstanding event earlier in October, where she finished sixth overall at Cal Poly's 2010 Firestone Grill Invitational.

MEN'S SOCCER - David Ponce, LMU
Loyola Marymount junior David Ponce was a big reason for LMU's October surge that saw the Lions climb to the top of the WCC standings and into the national rankings. He scored four goals and added three assists for 11 points for the month. Two of those goals were game-winners to lead the Lions to a 5-2-1 record in October. Additionally, he became just the second player in LMU history to earn back-to-back WCC Player of the Week honors when he garnered recognition on October 11th and 18th.

WOMEN'S SOCCER - Anessa Patton, SCU
Senior Anessa Patton scored five goals and added one assists in eight games played in October. The Broncos went 5-3 in October and in four of those five wins, Patton scored the game-winner. Patton was named the WCC Player of the Week on October 11th for scoring the Broncos' lone goal in a 1-0 win over San Diego in Santa Clara's WCC-opener.

MEN'S TENNIS (SINGLES) - Sebastian Fanselow, PEP
Sophomore Sebastian Fanselow won the singles title at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championships, highlighting a month where he went 10-1 in singles. At the ITA/D'Novo All-American Championships, he posted three wins in the qualifying bracket to move to main draw. Fanselow is #50 in the ITA preseason rankings.

MEN'S TENNIS (DOUBLES) - Dean Jackson and Patrick Pohlmann, USD; Alex Llompart and Finn Tearney, PEP
Dean Jackson and Patrick Pohlmann, USDSenior Dean Jackson and junior Patrick Pohlmann went 5-2 during the month of October. They won three consecutive matches to earn a berth in the main draw at the D'Novo/ITA All-Americans and went 4-1 in the tournament. They also went 3-1 against ranked doubles pairs, with victories against #4 Dadamo/Krajicek (Texas A&M), #27 Escober/Garcia (Texas Tech) and #60 Potvin/Smith (Georgia Tech).
Alex Llompart and Finn Tearney, PEPJunior Alex Llompart and sophomore Finn Tearney reached the semifinals of the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championships, posting a 3-1 record during the month. They were seeded #4 at the tournament and eliminated teams from Hawaii, UC Irvine and USC. Ranked #26 in the ITA preseason ratings, they improved their record together to 14-2 over two seasons.

WOMEN'S TENNIS (SINGLES) - Marie Zalameda, PEP
Sophomore Marie Zalameda won the Flight "A" championship at the UC Santa Barbara Classic and posted a 5-1 record during the month. She defeated teammate Ali Walters in the final at UCSB. Zalameda also reached the Round of 32 at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championships, where she fell to Maya Johannson of UCLA. Her wins in October came against foes from Denver, UC Santa Barbara, Arizona State, Pepperdine and Cal Poly.

WOMEN'S TENNIS (DOUBLES) - Anamika Bhargava & Marie Zalameda, PEP
Anamika Bhargava and Marie Zalameda, PepperdineSenior Anamika Bhargava and sophomore Marie Zalameda reached the semifinals of the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championships. They posted three straight wins against squads from UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and Long Beach State before falling to San Diego State in the semis. Bhargava and Zalameda, ranked #24 in the ITA preseason poll, also competed in the doubles qualifying draw at the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships.

VOLLEYBALL - Ali Troost, USD
Senior right side Ali Troost helped lead USD to a perfect 9-0 record and a perfect 8-0 record to open up WCC play. This marks the fourth time in program history that the Toreros have opened the WCC season 8-0. Troost paced the Toreros offense with 137 kills, hit for a .377 clip, recorded 61 digs and 14 blocks. Troost also recorded two double-doubles this month, as she had 14 kills and 10 digs in a win over Portland (10/2), and 15 kills and 13 digs against Saint Mary's (10/9). She racked up a season-high 28 kills in a win against Utah, and recorded 25 kills in a win against LMU.
