University of Portland Holds Top Spot in 2010-11 WCC Commissioner's Cup Race

SAN BRUNO, CALIF. - With the men's soccer regular season in the books, the University of Portland remains in sole possession of the lead for the 2010-11 West Coast Conference Commissioner's Cup, presented by Comcast Cable. By capturing a share of the men's soccer crown, Santa Clara and Loyola Marymount both inched closer to the Pilots atop the overall standings.

Santa Clara and Loyola Marymount each earned a share of the West Coast Conference men's soccer championship with 25 points during conference play. As a result of their success on the pitch, the Broncos (7-1-4) and Lions (8-3-1) both leap-frogged San Francisco in the men's standings, and are a half-point and 1.5 points behind the Pilots, respectively.

Overall, the Pilots now have 28.0 Commissioner's Cup points after men's and women's cross country and men's and women's soccer, and they own a four point lead over second place Santa Clara (24.0 points). Loyola Marymount moved into third with 21.0 points, followed by San Francisco (18.0), San Diego (15.5), Gonzaga (14.0), Saint Mary's (8.0) and Pepperdine (7.5).

The next Commissioner's Cup update, presented by Comcast Cable, will come following the conclusion of the volleyball regular season this weekend. San Diego can clinch the top spot outright with a win in either of its final two matches.
