WCC Announces Players of the Week

Three student-athletes were honored on Monday as the league office announced the WCC Player of the Week award winners. San Diego captured the award for volleyball as Amy DeGroot took home volleyball Player of the Week. Patrick Mills from Saint Mary's won the men's basketball weekly award, while Gonzaga's Heather Bowman won the honor for women's basketball.

AMY DEGROOT, USD
Junior -Outside Hitter

Junior outside hitter Amy Mahinalani DeGroot led USD to two sweeps on the road against LMU and Pepperdine to take the WCC conference crown for the third straight year. DeGroot recorded a team-high 15 kills in the win over LMU and a team-best 16 kills at Pepperdine. DeGroot also had five blocks, three solo, and 10 digs on the weekend.
PATRICK MILLS, SMC
Sophomore - Guard

Sophomore guard Patrick Mills averaged 21.5 points while guiding Saint Mary's to a 2-0 week with wins over Fresno State and Vanguard. Mills went 16-for-31 on the floor (51.6 percent) and averaged three assists and three steals on the weekend. Against Fresno State, Mills scored a game-high 27 points, marking his 10th career 20-point game in 34 games as a Gael. In the game against Vanguard, he notched a game-high 16 points.
HEATHER BOWMAN, GON
Junior - Forward

Junior forward Heather Bowman averaged 24 points and eight rebounds last week, paving the way for Gonzaga's wins over Utah Valley, Montana State, and Wyoming. Bowman also shot 58.7 percent from the floor and 90 percent from the free throw line. In the game against Montana State alone, Bowman nearly outscored the entire Montana State team in the first half, scoring 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 from the free throw line.
