Portland's Jared Stohl Takes Home WCC Player of the Week Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- With the 2010-11 men's and women's basketball season underway, the West Coast Conference is pleased to announce its WCC Players of the Week selections.

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Jared Stohl, Portland, SR, G
Jared Stohl averaged 23.5 points in Portland's two games last week, an 84-68 loss to Washington State and a 75-63 victory over UC Santa Barbara. Stohl made 5-of-12 three-pointers en route to a team-high 21 points versus WSU. He also grabbed three rebounds and made all four of his free throw attempts. In the win over the Gauchos, Stohl erupted for a game-high 26 points, including 6-of-9 from three-point range and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. He went a combined 12-for-23 from the field (.522), 11-for-21 from three-point range (.524), and 12-of-13 at the foul line (.923). Stohl, already Portland's career leader in three-pointers made, also moved into fifth place in the WCC record books with 273 career threes. He leads the nation in three-pointers made with 28 on the season.

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Sam Child, San Diego, SR, G
San Diego guard Sam Child helped pace the Toreros to a 2-0 record with wins over Cal State Fullerton and Columbia to run USD's winning streak to three games. Child averaged a team-leading 23.5 ppg, averaged 8.0 rebounds per game, while shooting .594 from the field. Child recorded her first career double-double in Wednesday's win over Cal State Fullerton, as she had 21 points and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds. She then followed that up with a 26-point performance in Saturday's win over Columbia, falling just two points shy of tying her career-high.
