SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- All nine West Coast Conference schools are teaming up in an effort to collectively donate 13,500 T-shirts to Clothes4Souls for the 2012 Zappos.com WCC T-Shirt Drive. The drive is an extension of the competitive Zappos.com WCC Shoe Drive that occurred across the WCC campuses from 2009, in which WCC schools collectively donated over 26,900 pairs of shoes to Soles4Souls.
"We are excited to transition to a T-shirt drive this year with the help of partner Zappos.com," said WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich. "The drive has always been a great opportunity for our schools to give back. Our membership's hard work across all nine campuses in making this drive successful is a testament to our commitment to community service, and I look forward to seeing the culmination of the T-shirt drive in Las Vegas on March 3rd."
The Zappos.com WCC T-Shirt Drive, which officially begins on Monday, December 5, will run through the men's and women's basketball season, and end on Monday, February 27.
Zappos.com collection boxes will be placed around various parts of WCC campuses, including basketball arenas. This year, each school that reaches its goal will win a student-fan group party on its campus and everyone is encouraged to help support the T-shirt drive by donating any T-shirts in good, "wearable" condition.
All donations will be sent to Clothes4Souls, a new division of Soles4Souls, which facilitates the donations of new clothing from manufacturers, designers, and retailers and gently worn clothing from the community to donate to people in need worldwide.
In addition, as part of the partnership with Zappos.com, all schools will send two Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representatives to Las Vegas to participate in WCC Kidz Day, Powered by Zappos.com, which takes place at the on Friday, March 3 at the 2012 Zappos.com WCC Men's and Women's Basketball Championships.
At the upcoming WCC Kidz Day, Powered by Zappos.com event, the WCC and Zappos.com will host 1,000 youth from the Las Vegas After-School All-Stars at the Orleans Arena to receive a new free pair of shoes and official Kidz Day T-shirt and spend time with the WCC administrators, student-athletes, band and cheer squads and mascots before attending the women's quarterfinal game at 12:00 PM.
