WCC Announces Players Of The Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Three West Coast Conference basketball players were honored on Monday with WCC Player of the Week recognition. Saint Mary's senior guard Tron Smith was selected as the men's basketball Player of the Week, while Gonzaga's Michelle Elliott and San Francisco's Dominique Carter shared the women's award.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Tron Smith, SMC
SR - Guard
Smith came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points in the Gaels' 69-64 win over San Diego State in the John Wooden Classic at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. Smith, who's 20 points marked a season-high, also added five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. The win kept the Gaels unbeaten and improved their record to 7-0. Saint Mary's is off to its best start since opening the 1988-89 season with a 9-0 record. The Gaels also moved into the top 25, checking in at No. 24 in both the AP and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches top 25 polls.
CO-WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Michelle Elliott, GON
SR - Guard
Elliott averaged 25 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, while shooting a blistering .630 (17-for-27) from the field as Gonzaga topped UC Davis and Sacramento State on the road. Elliott started the week by chipping in 19 points and grabbing six rebounds in the Zags' win over UC Davis. She then scored a career-high 31 points in the win over the Hornets, sinking nine three-pointers to set a Gonzaga single-game record.
CO-WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Dominique Carter, USF
SR - Forward
Carter was outstanding in the Dons' wins over Sacramento State and San Jose State, averaging 28 points, nine rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game on the week. The senior forward shot an impressive .575 (23-for-40) from the floor. Carter notched a double-double with 24 points and 10 boards against the Hornets. She then poured in a career-high 32 points against the Spartans to go along with six rebounds, five assists, one block and one steal.
