WCC Announces Players Of The Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Three West Coast Conference basketball players were honored on Monday with WCC Player of the Week recognition. Santa Clara's Jen Gottschalk earned the women's award, while Loyola Marymount's Orlando Johnson and San Diego's Gyno Pomare shared the men's award.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Jen Gottschalk, SCU
SR - Forward
Santa Clara's Jen Gottschalk led the Broncos to a 79-72 road victory at Cal Poly in SCU's lone game last week. The senior scored a game-high 25 points in the win, while pulling down eight rebounds and collecting four steals as Santa Clara moved to the top of the WCC standings. Gottschalk shot .588 (10-for-17) from the field and was perfect from the charity stripe, hitting all five of her free throw attempts. The forward, who leads the Broncos in both scoring (17.4 ppg) and rebounding (6.0 rpg), also pitched in with four assists and a blocked shot in the win over Cal Poly.
CO-MEN'S BASKETBALL

Orlando Johnson, LMU

Loyola Marymount freshman guard Orlando Johnson led the Lions with a career-high 25 points in their 86-74 overtime setback at UC Riverside. Johnson, who also added eight rebounds, connected on 8-for-16 from the field, including 4-for-8 from the three-point line and 5-for-8 from the charity stripe. Johnson's point total ranks tied for third all-time for points by a freshman at LMU, tying Chris Haney who did it twice in 1985 (Jan. 5 at Montana; Mar. 7 vs. San Diego).
CO-MEN'S BASKETBALL

Gyno Pomare, USD
JR - Forward
San Diego junior forward Gyno Pomare averaged 23.5 ppg and 7.0 rpg in the Toreros' contests versus Nevada and Stephen F. Austin. Pomare started the week by scoring 22 points and pulling down nine rebounds at Nevada. He followed that up with a career-high 25 points and five boards against Stephen F. Austin. On the week, Pomare shot .625 from the floor (15-24) and .944 from the charity stripe (17-18).
