SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named Gonzaga freshman Domonique Garley the West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week and the Pepperdine duo of Matea Cutura and Luisa Stefani the Doubles Team of the Week.

Garley earns her first Player of the Week nod after a 6-1, 6-1 win against Portland helped lead the Zags to a 4-1 win that clinched second place in the WCC, the highest finish for Gonzaga in program history. The win was Garley’s 25th overall win of the year, breaking the program record of singles win in a single season. She finishes the regular season second in the conference with 25 overall wins and tied for third in the WCC with 16 dual wins.

Garley is the third Bulldog to be named Singles Player of the Week this season.

Cutura and Stefani were solid in the number one doubles position this week for the eighth-ranked Waves, helping Pepperdine to two West Coast Conference sweeps at Santa Clara and San Francisco. The effort helped the team remain undefeated throughout the 2016 WCC campaign at 9-0. First, Cutura and Stefani helped clinch the doubles point with the second doubles win of the afternoon at SCU with a 6-1 win over Nabila Farah and Daniella Silva, propelling the Waves into singles play with a 1-0 advantage. Then, with a 1-1 doubles tie and the doubles point up for grabs on Saturday at San Francisco, the duo downed Andrea Ka and Thyra Taune 6-3 to once again clinch the doubles point and put the Waves up 1-0 heading into singles competition. The duo now holds a 3-0 record against opponents, all in the number one doubles position.

The Waves have won seven doubles team of the week nods this year, but this is the second for the pairing of Cutura and Stefani who last claimed the honor in Week 1.
