Gonzaga's Stirton Earns First Women's Basketball Weekly Honor

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for January 4, 2016. 

WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – GEORGIA STIRTON, SR., G - GONZAGA
Senior Georgia Stirton led Gonzaga to a pair of home wins over San Francisco and Santa Clara as the starting point guard for the Zags in the second week of conference play.

Stirton averaged 12.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while leading the Zags to the two wins, which included snapping Santa Clara’s program-record 12-game winning streak. On the week she totaled 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field (64.3 percent). The senior made three of her four three-point attempts and all four of her free-throws. She added seven rebounds and five assists total.

The Zags’ point guard turned the ball over just once in both games, including just once against a Broncos that ranked No. 1 in the nation in total steals and No. 3 in steals per game.
