Lund (Player) and Wilson (Pitcher) Earn Rawlings Weekly Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Rawlings Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for February 22, 2016. 

WEST COAST CONFERENCE RAWLINGS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – BRENNON LUND, JR., OF – BYU
Junior outfielder Brennon Lund has a current five-game hitting streak. In the three games against St. Louis, Lund was 10-for-16 with 3 RBI, 2 doubles, one walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base, 11 putouts (8 came in the 5-0 shutout) in the deepest centerfield (433 feet) in the country for a minor league park (according to Jim Gemma, PR man for AAA Cashman Field, home of the 51s in Las Vegas) 

Lund was 6-for-10 in Saturday's doubleheader. He led off beating out a single up the middle to start game one in which he had a 4-for-4 outing with three singles and a double. He scored BYU’s first run after alertly stealing third base in the eventual shutout.  

In the season opener on Friday Lund was 4-for-6 in the lead-off position.  The speedy Lund beating out a bunt to load the bases in the four-run third inning. He reached at least second base in the first (3rd base), third (scored after single), sixth (scored off BB & singled in 2 at bats that inning), seventh (3rd after single) and eighth (2nd after E4) of the opener.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE RAWLINGS PITCHER OF THE WEEK – STEVEN WILSON, JR., RHP – SANTA CLARA
Redshirt junior righthander Steven Wilson set the tone for Santa Clara baseball as the Broncos shut out No. 24 Notre Dame for their first win of the season Saturday night. Wilson struck out seven batters in 6.0+ shutout innings and did not issue a walk. The Littleton, Colo. native contributed to a span of 15 straight scoreless innings by the Fighting Irish as the Broncos won two of three games to claim the series.

Wilson retired 11 consecutive batters during a stretch between the second and fifth innings. He faced no more than one batter above the minimum in each of his six complete innings.
