NCAA Cross Country Championship Preview

The WCC will be well represented at the NCAA Cross Country National Championship as five teams and two individual runners will be competing on November 19th in Terre Haute, Indiana.

 

The #12 Portland Pilots Men, led by a sixth place finish by sophomore Nick Hauger, earned an automatic bid by placing in second in the West Regional this past weekend. #3 BYU Cougars finished third in a very competitive Mountain Regional and earned an at large bid. WCC Men’s Individual Champion, USF Senior Alex Short, finished fourth in the West Region which automatically qualified him. Saint Mary’s Gabe Arias-Sheridan became the first ever runner from the school to qualify for the National Championship Meet by earning a seventh place finish in the West Region.

 

On the Women’s side, the WCC has three nationally ranked teams that all moved on. The WCC Champions, #10 Portland Pilots, qualified as a team for the first time with a fifth place finish in the Western Regional. Lauren LaRocco, the WCC Individual Champion, finished fourth. #16 University of San Francisco placed third in the west and were paced by an impressive second place finish by Charlotte Taylor. #18 BYU placed fifth in the mountain region to advance to the NCAA Championships.
