SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Pacific sophomore catcher Rachel Sellers and BYU junior pitcher McKenna Bull have been named the West Coast Conference Softball Players and Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
It was nearly impossible for opposing pitchers to get Rachel Sellers out this weekend as the sophomore finished Pacific’s three game weekend hitting .875 with 13 total bases. Against Boise State, Sellers mashed three hits, tallied an RBI and roped two doubles as Pacific took a win over the Broncos. In the second game of the day with Montana, Sellers had another three-hit performances, again including a double and a home run as Pacific took down Montana 8-0 in five innings. Against Seattle, Sellers scored a pair of runs, walked and tallied a single as Pacific completed a 3-0 weekend. Additionally, prior to an eventual rained out nightcap against Washington, Sellers doubled and scored a run, but the game was ruled no contest after the third inning.
McKenna Bull was strong from the circle again for BYU this weekend at the Wildcat Invitational. Bull led the team in the upset of No. 15 Arizona, pitching all seven innings and throwing nine strikeouts with just two walks and two runs. She also completed her third shutout this season against UTEP, throwing 11 strikeouts and just two walks. The win against the Miners was her fourth game with double-digit strikeouts. Over the weekend, she totaled 31 strikeouts and only nine walks.
It is Sellers’s second honor this season and the third consecutive for Bull.
