SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Pacific has swept the West Coast Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors after senior infielder Nicole Zapotoczny and sophomore pitcher Marissa Young took home the week five awards, the conference office announced Monday.
Zapotoczny had a breakout weekend for the Tigers, despite the rain that washed out Pacific’s final contest of the weekend. Zapotoczny tallied a career-high five RBI against Sacramento State, striking for an RBI double and an RBI single in her first two at-bats before launching a three-run homer to center field in her third time up to give Pacific a commanding lead that thy would not relinquish. In the nightcap against No. 7 Oregon, Zapotoczny also doubled against Oregon standout pitcher Geri Ann Glasco. She finished the week hitting .500 while also adding a stolen base.
Young earned the pitcher of the week honor after pitching three no-hit frames and finishing with a five-hitter in her lone start of the week against Sacramento State. She surrendered just one earned run and struck out three in the 7-2 victory. Young didn’t allow a single extra-base hit in the 116-pitch performance to get the win for the Tigers.
It is the first honor this season for both Zapotoczny and Young.
