SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Pacific has swept the West Coast Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors after sophomore catcher Rachel Sellers and sophomore pitcher Marissa Young took home the week eight awards, the conference office announced Monday.
The honors are the third this season for Sellers and the second for Young.
Sellers paced the Pacific offensive attack in the lone game of the week for the Tigers, going 3-3 with a double, a home run and four RBI against UC Davis. Finishing with a 1.000 batting average for the week, Sellers slugged 2.333 and also threw out a would-be base stealer at third in a dominating 9-0 shutout performance in five innings over the local rival Aggies.
Young was the only pitcher for the Tigers this week, throwing a dominating three-hit shutout over UC Davis on Tuesday. Young held batters to a .188 batting average and struck out two for her third shutout of the season.
