SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Volleyball Player of the Week for August 31, 2015.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – BECCA STREHLOW, SR., S - PEPPERDINE
Senior setter Becca Strehlow propelled Pepperdine to an Asics Classic Tournament victory and wins against Alabama, a team that received votes in last week’s AVCA poll and was picked to finish No. 2 in the SEC, as well as UC Santa Barbara, Utah Valley and Incarnate Word. This is the first time since 2009 that Pepperdine has gone 4-0 to start the season.
Strehlow was named to the Asics Classic All-Tournament team after leading the offense towards 14.0 kills/set and 196 total kills for a .274 attack percentage. Strehlow also contributed 1.2 kills/set (17 kills-0 errors-33 attempts) for a .515 success rate, while earning 10.57 assists/set (148 total), 3.1 digs/set (44), 0.71 blocks/set (10) and two service aces for 1.71 points/set (24.0) in 14 sets played.
Against the Crimson Tide, she tabbed 44 assists (11.0/set) while adding a six kills a .500 attack percentage (0 errors-12 attempts-1.5/set) after four sets played.
In the season opener against Incarnate Word, the senior hit at a .667 success rate with four kills (0 errors-6 attempts-1.3/set), then against Utah Valley she posted 37 assists (.487-9.8 assists/set).. In the first game on day two against UC Santa Barbara, Strehlow earned her first double-double of the season with 22 digs and 39 assists while working for four kills (.500-0 errors-8 attempts) and tallying 39 assists (9.8/set).
