SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Pepperdine women's tennis earned three total bids to the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles and Dobules Championships that will take place on May 25-30 at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the conclusion of the team championships.
West Coast Conference Player and Freshman of the Year Luisa Stefani was selected as the No. 7 overall seed in the women's singles draw after an oustanding freshman season for the Waves. The Sao Paulo native is currently ranked No. 6 in the ITA Tennis rankings after helping to lead the Waves to the WCC regular season and championship titles. Stefani went 33-5 overall and 19-2 in dual competition at No. 1 singles this season and was 20-4 against nationally-ranked competition.
The Waves also earned two bids into the doubles championship in the pairs of Matea Cutura and Christine Maddox alongside Stefani and Jean Runglerdkriangkrai. Both pairs were selected as two of the three first team All-WCC doubles teams.
Cutura and Maddox earned the WCC's automatic bid and are the No. 19 ranked pair in the country in the latest ITA Tennis rankings. Cutura and Maddox were 16-6 overall this season and were unbeaten in WCC play.
The duo of Stefani and Runglerdkriangkrai earned an at-large bid after a season that saw them go 19-4 overall and 13-3 in dual competition. The duo were 8-2 at No. 1 doubles and finished with four wins over nationally-ranked competition. Stefani and Runglerdkriangkrai are ranked as the 26th-best doubles team in the country by ITA Tennis.
