SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named Pepperdine freshman Luisa Stefani the West Coast Conference Women’s Singles Player of the Week and the Waves duo Stefani and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai the Women’s Doubles Team of the Week.
Stefani had an excellent week for the Waves with two wins over top-36 ranked opponents in singles and two victories on the doubles side as well, leading the Waves to two commanding victories. In Pepperdine’s 4-3 win over No. 27 Arizona State, the No. 6-ranked freshman put down No. 36 Desirae Krawczyk with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 result to lead the Waves to the win. She then helped the Waves best No. 22-ranked UCLA after dropping No. 18-ranked Catherine Harrison 4-6, 7-6, 10-8 to aid Pepperdine towards the 6-1 win.
It is Stefani’s second WCC Singles Player of the Week honor this season.
Stefani and Runglerdkriangkrai, a duo ranked No. 21 on the Oracle/ITA ranking, went undefeated this weekend at No. 2 doubles to help the Waves to two victories. Against No. 27 Arizona State, the pair posted a 6-2 win over Desirae Krawczyk and Stephanie Vlad. The duo then led the Waves to a 6-1 victory over No. 22 UCLA on the road with a commanding 6-1 win over Terri Fleming and Kelly Shaffer. The win helped the Waves to the doubles point en route to the dominating victory. Stefani and Runglerdkriangkrai are 5-0 in dual play this 2016 spring season, all of which were in the number two doubles position. In the 2015-16 season, the pair has amassed a 10-1 record for Pepperdine and is currently on a 10-match winning streak.
