Record Number to Represent WCC at 2015 NCAA XC Nationals

SAN BRUNO, Calif.- Four teams and three individuals will represent the West Coast Conference at the 2015 NCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday Nov. 21. Marking 2015 as a WCC landmark season with the most team appearances at NCAA Nationals. University of Louisville will host the championships at Tom Sawyer State park in Louisville, Kentucky. 

In the women’s 6k race, three WCC teams will compete, BYU, Gonzaga and San Francisco. Loyola Marymount’s Danielle Shanahan also received an individual selection. 

In the men’s 10k race the conference champions No. 3 BYU will headline for the WCC. San Francisco’s Alex Short, WCC September Runner of the Month, will run in the men’s 10k as an individual selection after placing fifteenth at the West Regionals. Gonzaga's Matthew Crichlow finished 18th at the West Regionals and will make the first nationals appearance in program history.

BYU MEN’S TEAM- The Cougars, ranked nationally at No. 3 and the 2015 West Coast Conference Champions, were selected as an at-large team to compete in this year’s NCAA championship. The Cougars were a clear choice after having four athletes finish in the top 25 of the Mountain Regional Championships. WCC Freshman of the Year, Dallin Farnsworth, paced BYU finishing 9th overall. BYU will participate in the NCAA Championship for the school’s 32nd time. In the 2014 Championship BYU finished 16th with a score of 437. 

BYU WOMEN’S TEAM- The No. 24 Cougars finished fourth at the NCAA Mountain Region Championship earning them an at-large bid to the 2015 NCAA National Championships.  Natalie Shields-Connolly led the BYU women at Regionals where she finished 17th overall. 

GONZAGA WOMEN’S TEAM – The WCC Women’s Champions are making their first appearance at nationals this 2015 season. The Bulldogs received an at-large bid post a 6th place West Regional Championship finish. They entered the race fifth in the region and 30th nationally, both rankings program highs. The bulldogs were paced by the WCC runner of the year, Shelby Mills, who finished in seventh place. 

SAN FRANCISCO WOMEN’S TEAM - The Don women earned an at large bid after finishing 5th at the NCAA West Regionals. USF most recently competed at Nationals in 2013 where they finished 13th overall.
