SAN BRUNO, Calif. – San Diego junior outfielder Olivia Sandusky and BYU junior pitcher McKenna Bull have been named the West Coast Conference Softball Players and Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Sandusky went 9-14 (.643) over the weekend with three home runs, eight RBI, 10 runs and two stolen bases for the Toreros. She was a perfect 8-8 through the weekend's first three games in helping San Diego go 3-0. In the last two games of the weekend against UC Riverside, Sandusky went 1-6 but still provided USD with three RBI and three runs scored.
Bull etched her name to the top of another BYU pitching record with another strong weekend. In the 3-0 shutout of Bethune-Cookman, Bull earned her ninth-career save, placing her in first place all-time in BYU history, breaking a tie with Hannah Howell for sole possession of the top spot. Against both New Mexico State and Cal State Fullerton, Bull threw 12 strikeouts, improving her to a total of eight games in her career where she has thrown double-digit strikeouts. She totaled 32 strikeouts in the four games played over the weekend, three of which were for all seven innings.
It is Sandusky’s first honor this season and the second consecutive for Bull.
