Six WCC Teams Selected For Postseason Play

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – For the second consecutive year, the West Coast Conference is sending a record six teams to postseason play with two program selected to the NCAA Tournament and four earning trips to the postseason WNIT.

Seventh-seeded BYU and 13th-seeded San Francisco earned berths into the NCAA Tournament to mark the fourth time in five years that the WCC has sent two teams to NCAA postseason play. It is the 11th time in the history of the conference that multiple teams have earned bids to the tournament.

BYU (26-6) earned an at-large bid for its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance, earning a 7-seed in the process. The Cougars will face Missouri at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m. PT on ESPN2.

San Francisco (21-11) is making its fourth NCAA appearance after winning the WCC Tournament title last week at the Orleans Arena. The Dons face 4th-seeded Stanford at Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto on Saturday, March 19 at 6 p.m. PT on ESPN2.

A total of four teams earned bids to the postseason WNIT, marking the second straight year that four teams were selected to the tournament.

Saint Mary’s (24-7) earned the conference’s automatic bid and is joined by Gonzaga (18-13), San Diego (23-7) and Santa Clara (23-8). It is the ninth WNIT appearance for Saint Mary’s – including the seventh consecutive – as well as the fifth for Gonzaga and sixth for both San Diego and Santa Clara. Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s will both host first round games on Thursday, March 17. San Diego travels to Northwestern Thursday, and Santa Clara travels to Fresno State on Friday, March 18.
