Senior Kyla Maher finished third and sophomore Tim Hatters placed sixth to lead their respective teams to second place finishes at the USD Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning in San Diego. Both the men's and women's teams placed three runners in the Top 10.
Maher completed the six-kilometer women's race in a time of 24:16 while sophomore Brieanna Carroll was sixth with a time of 24:35 and freshman Jessica Heckman turned in a time of 24:48 to finish eighth.
Julie-Anne Bailey and Samntha From finished first and second, respectively, to lead Point Loma Nazarene to the team title with 39 points. The Waves were second with 41 points and were followed by Loyola Marymount (67), San Diego (88) and San Diego Christian (131).
San Diego's Chris Jacobs topped the men's field in a time of 27:19.
Loyola Marymount captured the men's title with 34 points and was followed by Pepperdine (45), Point Loma Nazarene (60) and San Diego (90).
Pepperdine is off next week but will host the First Annual Kampmann Klassic Race and Reception Saturday at Alumni Park beginning at 9 a.m. The race is named after longtime Waves' head coach Dick Kampmann, who retired this past summer after 17 years. A brunch and reception will be held at 10 a.m. in the Jones Trophy Room of Helen Field Heritage Hall.
