Cross Country Blitzes Balboa Park

San Diego, CA - The Saint Mary's cross country team continued its 2007 campaign with some impressive times at the 63rd Annual Aztec Invitational. The men's team placed 12th in the 8k Invitational while the women placed 13th in the 5k Invitational.

Karrie Hagedorn paced the lady harriers once again with a time of 19:08 to place 33rd overall. True freshman Tess Grannemann closely followed with a 19:36, good enough for a 51st place finish.

Also scoring for the Gaels was Maddie Dengler, Jade Lewis and Jenna Zack. Dengler crossed the line with a time of 21:21 while Lewis followed with a 22:18 and Zack finished with a 23:21. Alex Bettencourt ran a 23:54.

On the men's side, Mario Mendoza led the Gaels for the second consecutive week. The junior ran a 27:18 for a 44th place finish. Fellow junior transfer Nick Shea was close behind with a time of 27:36, a 66th place finish.

Freshman Mark Blucher crossed the line at 29:17 while junior David Stiles finished with a 29:29. The quartet of Bradley Alban (31:10), Eric Villegas (31:19), Peter Mathieu (31:31) and Michael Truxton (31:41) all finished in a tight group.

The Air Force Academy finished first in the men's division while Arkansas took the top honors in the women's invitational. SMC defeated fellow conference foe USD in the women's race.
