Waves Men Top Cal State Northridge, Women Second at Pepperdine Invitational

Junior Sam Hudson led the Pepperdine men's cross country team to a win over Cal State Northridge and the women's team placed second at the Pepperdine Invitational that was run Saturday morning at the University's Alumni Park. It marked the second straight year that the Pepperdine men's team won the event and the women finished second.

Cal State Los Angeles was named the winner of the women's six-kilometer race after two Pepperdine runners were disqualified for running off the course. The Golden Eagles totaled 44 points while the Waves tallied 53. USC finished third with 57 points while Cal State Northridge was fourth with 79.

Cal State Los Angeles' Carla Alburez won the race with a time of 22:35 to finish ahead of Pepperdine senior Kyla Maher, who completed the course in 23:07. Maher along with senior Beth Bedingfield, who finished 17th, were disqualified after running off the course.

Sophomore Brieanna Carroll continued her fine season as she placed fourth with a time of 23:25.

In the men's eight-kilometer race, Hudson led a group of three Waves who finished in the top five after completing the course in a time of 27:40 to finish second. Cal State Northridge's Manuel Ruiz paced the field in a time of 27:21.

Sophomore Tim Hatters (28:11) finished third and freshman Nick Rowen (28:14) placed fourth.

Pepperdine returns to the trails next Saturday when it travels to Riverside to compete in the UC Riverside Invitational beginning at 8 a.m.
