The USF woman won the Bronco Invitational Saturday morning at Baylands Park. The team, who scored 76 points, beat out second place Long Beach (100) and was led by a junior Michelle Born with a time of 17:43 (9th). The spread between the Dons' scoring five was a spectacular 12 seconds; senior Fallon Heffernan finished second for the Dons in 17:47 (14th) and was followed by senior Jennifer Hartford in 17:51 (16th) and senior Zita Mezei in 17:53 (18th) with senior Lucy Miller rounding out the top five in 17:55 (19th).
"Our women ran really well today," said Head Coach Helen Lehman-Winters. "Last year at this meet our top runner finished in 17:52 and this year we had five girls under or near that time. It really shows how much our program has improved."
The USF men's team placed ninth with 190 points--Long Beach was first with 85 points and Loyola Marymount was second with 111. Junior Alex Nelson and senior Cheyne Inman led the team in 25:07 (10th) and 25:15 (16th), respectively. Sophomore Byron Williams and seniors Jordan Zwick and Kenny Sparks rounded out the scoring five for the Dons.
