Pepperdine seniors Chris Gaudreau and Kyla Maher led their respective teams at the Cal Poly Invitational Saturday morning at the Fairbanks Cross Country Course in San Luis Obispo. The men's team placed fifth in the eight-kilometer run while the women finished sixth in the 13-team five-kilometer race.
Gaudreau finished 32nd overall with a time of 27:47 to pace the Waves. Junior Sam Hudson once again was among Pepperdine's top finishers as he placed 38th with a time of 28:05.
Kentucky won the men's team title with 32 points as the Wildcats had the top two finishers. Andre Silva was the top individual performer completing the course in a time of 26:01 to finish ahead of Wildcat teammate John Richardson, who placed second with a time of 26:01.
UC Santa Barbara finished second with 46 points while host Cal Poly (46) was third, Loyola Marymount (94) fourth and Pepperdine (159) fifth.
On the women's side, Maher turned in another solid performance as she completed the course in a time of 18:40 to finish 17th. Sophomore Brieanna Carroll placed 27th with a time of 18:54 and freshman Caitlin White turned in a time of 19:08 to finish 35th.
Oregon State won the team title with 43 points while Kentucky (62) was second. See Jane Run Racing (87) was third and followed by Loyola Marymount (113), UC Santa Barbara (126) and Pepperdine (146).
Loyola Marymount's Laura Mickelson was the top individual performer, winning the event in a time of 17:34.
Pepperdine will have its final tune-up before the West Coast Conference (WCC) Championships next Friday when it travels to Orange County to compete in the Titan Invitational in Brea.
