Seniors Tarrah Crowley and Beth Bedingfield led the Pepperdine women's cross country team to a ninth place finish in the Titan Invitational that was run at the Cal State Fullerton Sports Complex in Fullerton Friday afternoon. The Pepperdine men's team placed seventh in the nine-team eight-kilometer race.
Crowley paced the Waves as she completed the five-kilometer run in a time of 18:53 to place 20th. Bedingfield finished 40th in a time of 19:27.
Cal Coast TC topped the 12-team field with 37 points while UC Santa Barbara finished as the top collegiate team. The Gauchos totaled 52 points to finish ahead of Long Beach State. The 49ers' Nicole Appell (17:56) and Cheryl Bube (18:31) were the top collegians as they placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Sophomore Timothy Hatters led the Pepperdine men's team as he completed the course in a time of 28:05 to finish 37th. Freshman Nick Rowan posted a time of 28:41 to place 52nd.
UC Santa Barbara completed the sweep by winning the men's event with 29 points. Cal State San Marcos was second with 58 points.
Cal State San Marcos' Juan Mejia topped the field finishing first in a time of 25:49. UC Santa Barbara's Mike Powers placed second in a time of 26:22.
Pepperdine returns to action next Saturday, October 28, when it travels to the Bay Area to compete in the West Coast Conference (WCC) Championships at the Crystal Springs Course in Belmont.
