PORTLAND, Ore. - The United States Cross Country Coaches Association announced its 2005 All-Academic Teams on Wednesday, recognizing the University of Portland's 30-man squad on its "With Distinction" list.
The Pilots, who had the most athletes on the roster of any school on the list, had an average grade point average of 3.26. The only institution to have both higher placing at the national meet and a higher GPA was Stanford University.
Of the 31 teams which competed at the NCAA Championships last November, only the University of Portland and three other schools received All-Academic With Distinction honors.
"Our team works just as hard academically as it does athletically," Portland head coach Rob Conner said. "I'm very proud of them."
