Renee Stribling and Alex Nelson Named to Region VIII Academic All-American Teams

Two USF cross-country/track athletes, sophomore Alex Nelson and graduate student Renee Stribling have been named to the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA District VIII Academic All-America teams.

Renee Stribling (3.93 Masters, Sports Management) of Angels Camp, Calif. is the school record holder in the 800m (2:14.21) and 1500m (4:31.00). She also ran legs on school record teams in 4x400m relay and distance medley relay.

She is a three time West Coast Conference All-Academic honoree in cross country and winner of the 2007 Anne Dolan Award (Female Student-Athlete of the Year).

Off the field Renee is an assistant to the director of Free to Play (Athletes Against Child Slavery) and an intern with the Western Athletic Clubs Philanthropy Program as a research coordinator.

Alex Nelson (3.88 Physics) of El Dorado Hills, Calif. is the school record holder in the 800m (1:53.31) and 1500m (3:52.55). A 2006 WCC All-Academic Honoree and WCC honorable mention in cross country, Nelson placed 15th (26:27) in the league championships.

He is a two year member of the USF Student Athlete Advisory committee and team captain of 2007 track team. In addition, he was named 2006 USF freshman of the year for both cross country and track.
