Los Angeles, Calif. - After a record season-opening performance at the Cal State Fullerton Invitational last weekend, Loyola Marymount cross country will head to San Diego for the USD Invitational Saturday. This weekend's race is the first of back-to-back meets that will take the Lions to San Diego.
The Lions will use the weekend to rest some of their top-five runners on both the men's and women's squad, focusing instead on giving others an opportunity to compete in the scoring-five for LMU.
Among the other programs participating will be West Coast Conference foes Pepperdine and the host Toreros.
"Basically, this is a smaller meet that gives some of our younger folks another opportunity to race in a less intimidating environment," LMU Head Coach Scott Guerrero said. "We'll also enter some of our older guys who are still rounding into shape and use this as a training opportunity for them."
After last weekend's strong showing - both teams placed in the top-five at the Cal State Fullerton Invitational- LMU has high expectations again this weekend.
The Lions will spend the next two weekends in San Diego, as the San Diego State Aztec Invitational follows this weekend's meet at USD's Morley Field.
