WCC Women's Cross Country Teams Continue Successful 2012 Seasons

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- WCC non-conference action continues this weekend as five teams attend the WCC Preview Meet in Portland, Ore.


  • BYU topped the field at the Reno Twilight Classic (9/8), led by Ashleigh Warner's runner-up finish. Danica Wyson and Rachel Stewart finished third and fifth, respectively.

  • Loyola Marymount opened with a win at the Mark Covert Classic (9/1). The Lions were led by individual winner Sheree Shea, and placed five runners in the top-13 individually (1-6-7-10-13). San Diego and Pepperdine also competed, finishing in fourth and ninth place.

  • Portland opened with a second place finish at the Pier Park Invitational (9/1). The Pilots placed four runners in the top-20.

  • Gonzaga took home the title at the Clash of the Inland Northwest (9/1), and placed five runners in the top-8 individually (2-3-4-5-8).

  • San Francisco hosted the 20th annual USF Invitational (9/1), finishing in fourth place out of 19 teams. Saint Mary's and Santa Clara were close behind, finishing in fifth and sixth place, respectively.

  • Loyola Marymount finished fourth at the UC Irvine Invitational (9/8), while Santa Clara finished fifth at the Hornet Jamboree (9/8), in week 2 action.

  • The 2012 WCC Cross Country Championships will be held at Fernhill Park in Portland, Ore. on October 27.
