LOS ANGELES - Loyola Marymount men's and women's cross country will no longer run at this weekend's Pepperdine Invitational. The Lions had planned to send a small squad to Malibu for the invitational, but will rest its runners for the September 29 Stanford Invitational.
The Lions are coming off three straight weekends of competition since starting their 2007 campaign in Malibu at the Pepperdine dual. There, LMU topped Pepperdine with Laura Mickelson and Trevor Wiseman winning the individual titles.
Mickelson went on to win the title at the Asics/UCI Invitational the following weekend as well, leading the regionally-ranked women to a second place team finish. The men took third, led by Wiseman.
The Lions faced some of the nation's top competition last weekend at the SDSU Aztec Invitational, including fourth-ranked Arkansas on the women's side. The LMU women placed sixth led by the 1-2 punch of Mickelson and freshman Tara Erdmann, while the men finished seventh behind Wiseman and Brian McDonald.
With this weekend off, the Lions will prepare for the competitive Stanford Invitational, which is set for a 4:00 p.m. start on Saturday, September 29.
