This Week in Cross Country: After trips to Southern California and the Pacific Northwest the Saint Mary's returns to the Bay Area to compete at the San Francisco State Invitational. The Invite will be held from Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. The men's team is set to begin their 8K race 8:15 a.m. The women's team will begin their 6K race at 9:15.

Scouting the Competition: The competition will feature two West Bay teams in San Francisco State and the University of San Francisco. This meet will mark the second straight week in which the Gaels have raced against the WCC rival Dons.

Scouting the Course: The Saint Mary's women's team will race a 6K in San Francisco; marking the first time this season that the Gaels run a 6K. Last season, the Gaels ran in one 6K at the Stanford Invitational. Senior Clare Schwallie ran the race in 24:07; a time which landed her eighth in the Saint Mary's record books. Schwallie looks to have another strong showing in this weekend's race.

Who's Hot: Haley Hunsaker is halfway through an impressive freshman campaign. Hunsaker has improved her times in each of the first three races. This past weekend Hunsaker's time of 19:31 marks the fastest time by a freshman since Allegra Porter ran 18:40 in 2000.

Gaels Reset Personal Best Times: Karrie Hagedorn (18:36), Haley Hunsaker (19:31), Claudia Aguilera (20:19) and David Stiles (28:40) all set new personal best times. Hagedorn and Hunsaker have set a new personal best time in each of the first three races. Hagedorn's time of 18:36 is the fastest Gael time since Allegra Porter ran 18:27 in 2004. Aguilera and Stiles, who set a personal best in the first race of the season, reset their best times this past weekend.

A Look at SMC Head Coach Randy Rau: Randy Rau enters his eighth season as the head men's and women's cross country coach. In his first season at the helm he was named WCC Coach of the Year. Under his tutelage, runners have earned four All-WCC selections, a Freshman of the Year honoree and five honorable mention accolades. Individually, both the men and women's school records have been shattered. Members of his men's team have posted 29 of the 30 fastest times in the history of the program.

Next Week for the Gaels: Saint Mary's will race in its final competition before the WCC Championships on Saturday, October 14 from Santa Clara, CA. The Gaels will race the Bronco Invite at Baylands Park. The race is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
